(Added relevant info from the Spiddlekick Interview. Daniel often strays away from talking about his grandmother, so I would say for now at least this article seems to be complete. I'm putting mostly relevant info about Nancy and her role with Daniel specifically.)

Nancy Jean Shimer[1] (née Kiswiney; April 2, 1947 – July 24, 2019) was the maternal grandmother and legal guardian of Daniel Larson, adoptive mother of Elisabeth Shimer, and mother-in-law of Travis Larson.

According to the Tennyson Center Video, Nancy moved from her home in California to Colorado to accompany Daniel during his stay at said Center and to take guardianship of him to prevent him from being moved into a foster home.[2] Daniel was later confirmed to have been living with his grandmother outside the center for an unknown period of time during his youth.

Nancy passed away in Oakland, California, on July 24, 2019,[3] at 72 years of age, of cancer.[4]

Biography

Early life

A picture of Nancy at an unknown age.

Born in Michigan to parents Saleen (sometimes spelled Saleem) Essa Kiswiney, a manager at a grocery store (1909-1983) and Rameses (sometimes referred to as Ramsa) Sarah Kallie (née Kiswiney), an elementary school teacher (1910-1976). Nancy was the youngest of 3 children. She had two siblings, Carol McGuire (née Kiswiney), and David Kiswiney, her brother.

Later life, and adoption of Elisabeth

Nancy married Daniel William Shimer (1943–2015) on November 28, 1970.[5] They had two biological daughters, Sarah and Rachel, and one adopted daughter, Elisabeth.

According to Daniel, Nancy worked in social services, with her job requiring her to relocate infants put for adoption. During one of these relocations, Nancy stumbled upon Elisabeth, to which she then adopted.[6] It is unknown what relationship Elisabeth had with Nancy's biological children, much less what Nancy's relationship with her husband was, especially given their divorce on September 1, 2005.[7]

Following her adoption of Elizabeth, she moved to California from Michigan, where she took care of Elizabeth.

Nancy and Bob Proctor

It was widely speculated that Nancy Shimer and Bob Proctor were in a long-term relationship before Bob met Daniel through the Tennyson Center Reading Buddies program. However, Daniel stated that Bob and Nancy were both in a friendship around the time Bob had met Daniel.

Nancy had also fought for custody of Daniel sometime around 2017-2019 when Daniel has transitioned from Tennyson and Sobesky to his group home that he had been living in. Daniel claimed in an Spiddlekick Interview that Nancy and Travis had fought for custody over Daniel, and that Nancy managed to easily win the custody battle with the defense that Daniel had not known his father. It is possible that Nancy was a case manager for Daniel, or at least took on that role during Daniel's stay within his foster homes and under her guardianship.

Death

Nancy Shimer passed away at the age of 72 due to cancer, however the type of cancer she had is unknown. She had left a trust fund for Daniel in the hands of Bob Proctor, and had Daniel sent to live in a group home, where he remained between 2019-2021. According to Flexburger, Daniel claimed that he never attended her funeral, though given Daniel's fragile mental state, this is understandable.

It is unknown as to who has Daniel's inheritance money now, given Bob Proctor has cut off contact with Daniel.
