Nancy Jean Shimer[1] (née Kiswiney; April 2, 1947 – July 24, 2019) was the maternal grandmother and legal guardian of Daniel Larson, adoptive mother of Elisabeth Shimer, and mother-in-law of Travis Larson.
According to the Tennyson Center Video, Nancy moved from her home in California to Colorado to accompany Daniel during his stay at said Center and to take guardianship of him to prevent him from being moved into a foster home.[2] Daniel was later confirmed to have been living with his grandmother outside the center for an unknown period of time during his youth.
Nancy passed away in Oakland, California, on July 24, 2019,[3] at 72 years of age, of cancer.[4]
Biography
Early life
Born in Michigan to parents Saleen (sometimes spelled Saleem) Essa Kiswiney, a manager at a grocery store (1909-1983) and Rameses (sometimes referred to as Ramsa) Sarah Kallie (née Kiswiney), an elementary school teacher (1910-1976). Nancy was the youngest of 3 children. She had two siblings, Carol McGuire (née Kiswiney), and David Kiswiney, her brother.
Later life, and adoption of Elisabeth
Nancy married Daniel William Shimer (1943–2015) on November 28, 1970.[5] They had two biological daughters, Sarah and Rachel, and one adopted daughter, Elisabeth.
According to Daniel, Nancy worked in social services, with her job requiring her to relocate infants put for adoption. During one of these relocations, Nancy stumbled upon Elisabeth, to which she then adopted.[6] It is unknown what relationship Elisabeth had with Nancy's biological children, much less what Nancy's relationship with her husband was, especially given their divorce on September 1, 2005.[7]
